Today is the day! My poetry collection, On the Subject of Blackberries, is officially released into the world, and with it comes a giant sigh of relief, a fresh breath of air, and my sincere gratitude for everyone who has taken a moment to preorder, or talk about the book, or share a picture or two. I’ve received so many emails and messages from moms about their own postpartum journeys and the community that has already surfaced around this book means so much to me. PPD and OCD are something that we should be talking about more, and it feels good to take off the mask and be really honest about the late nights, the crying fits, and the rage.
I’m not sure if I mentioned this or not before, but I initially had no intention of publishing these poems. They were pieces that I wrote for myself, little stream-of-conscious nightmares and panic attacks that I tried to purge from my chest, but when Jennifer came over to see Evie one weekend, we drank a lot of tea and had a lot of vulnerable discussions, and in the end, I decided to share the book with all of you.
I feel confident now that it was the right choice.
As you read these poems, know that there is a lot of magic buried inside of them. Some are curses, some are protection spells, and some are snakes woven around thorn bushes. In the end, they are as much poison as they are antidote, and I am both scarred and (on my way to being) healed.
If you’d like to purchase the book, you can do so wherever books are sold, although I encourage you to order it from your favorite indie bookstore or from the publisher, Raw Dog Screaming Press. You can also add the book to your Goodreads and Storygraph pages, and if you really want to go for it, you can leave a review of the book and tell a friend or ten.
My sincere thanks and love to you all.
Thank you, endlessly, for your support.
