Thank you, I needed this today. I recently visited Salem and bought a book of poetry by Edgar Allen Poe, so you had me hooked from the very beginning. I had to buy Lizzie, Speak because I just stayed at the Lizzie Borden house. I will definitely check out her other work as well. And the others on your list. Thank you for all of these awesome recommendations!
You're most welcome! And Oh! How was your experience at the Borden House? I stayed there years ago, and I'm actually reading The Trial of Lizzie Borden by Cara Robertson right now--what timing!
Oh I’ve heard that book is the best one regarding the case. I still have no idea if she did it or not. The house had icky vibes. We got some activity and I got a little creeped out before sunrise and had to leave early but I’m glad I did it for sure. Very interesting location.
Oh wow. That is how I felt exactly. Honestly it was less bad vibes from ghosts, more bad vibes in general. I think because of all the stagnant energy and dressed up mannequins and crime scene photos, etc. it’s reliving the worst moments ever over and over. A few people got sick and had to leave.
I too stayed in Bridget’s room. I stay in haunted places all the time and thought it would be pretty low key but it wasn’t. My door kept opening on its own and the latch was rattling. The only thing that made me happy was I think the ghost cat Max was there at one point. I slept with all the lights on and left before Dawn lol.
I love how similar our experiences were. I kept seeing the rocking chair moving and I, too, had all the lights on (and Monster's INC playing on my laptop all night HA). I had planned to shower before my plane the next morning, but after being in that house for so long I nope'd out of there first thing in the morning, too.
I like to visit and occasionally spend the night at haunted locations, too, and it's been a while since I've been so rattled at a location before. I think what you said about the house being forced to relive the memories over and over again is a good point. I'm going to have to think on that some more!

For sure—I spent the night in Bridget’s room and barely slept. The entire house felt so alive so the bad energy. It was really unsettling.
